OUTREACH MINISTRIES OF MT. PLEASANT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

We believe that a church without mission is a church that will decline, because Mission is what we are called to by Jesus Christ. In addition to our command to spread the gospel, we are also called to share our time, talents and money for needs in our Community, our nation and around the world. The following are examples of the ways we are involved in mission at Mt. Pleasant:

The United Methodist Church specifies six Special Mission Sundays throughout the year. Mt. Pleasant observes all of these as follows: Human Relations Day, UMCOR Sunday, Native American Sunday, Peace With Justice, World Wide Communion and Student Day.

In addition, Mt. Pleasant is in mission with the following:

  • Elijah's Bowl - serving at least one Saturday each year; one-half of our Harvest Home food collection yearly.
  • Caring for Kids - Provides weekend food baggies for school children, provide financial support.
  • Haven Ministry - One-half of our Harvest Home food collection yearly
  • Souper Bowl Sunday - Simple meal of soup and bread, with donations split between two local charities.
  • Operation Christmas Child - the Franklin Graham ministry of Christmas packages for children here and overseas.
  • Backpacks filled with school supplies for Shikellamy School District students.
  • Love Box Ministry - Boxes of goodies mailed each Feb. to our college students and members of the military.
  • Mission Central - a United Methodist collection depot for flood buckets, health kits, baby layettes, etc. as well as many other donated items used in relief efforts.
  • Neighborhood Center - an inner-city outreach of the United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, Pa., providing after school programs for children and teens, game clubs; teen mothers and snacks for everyone.
  • Woody Wolfe Ministries - a wonderful man who provides music ministry to Pediatric units in many hospitals that cover a large area, financial support.
  • Beck Elementary School, Sunbury - provide tissues, hand sanitizer, wipes, and any other practical items the school may request.
  • Mt. Pleasant is currently in the process of becoming involved with Love, Inc., a ministry out of Milton, Pa., which provides transportation and other services for folks in Upper Northumberland County, Union and Snyder County.

The Bishop's Partners in Mission

Bishop Park of the Susquehanna Conference of the United Methodist Church has chosen Partners in Mission to be people for mission.  Partners in Mission is 100% for mission.  Every penny will go to mission.  Missions such as Imagine No Malaria, Mission Central, the World Service Fund, Volunteers in Mission Teams.  Bishop's Partners in Mission (Advance #7090) is a newly created fund that will support many critical mission projects in our communities, our nation and our world.  The fund is about the vision that the Susquehanna Conference is a church ALIVE in CHRIST for mission and that together we do make a difference in our communities and in the world.  Bishop Park is asking for partners (individual, congregation, and church groups) to pledge $100 a year to the fund.
